You can use the fool.com and fool.co.uk as examples.

People can 'rec' a post. This is a way of saying that you think what the person wrote has significance.

There is a counter to show how many posts a person has made. The idea seems mostly that activity is the root of any discussion group.

People who have received a lot of rec's are notes.

The posts that attract the most 'rec's are grouped as the 'Top 50' topics.

You can also build a personal list of people who you care about so you can then check to see what they have been saying lately. I think this is called favorite fools as in my list of people who's views I value.

With all the ways to slice and dice the information you can more or less tailor the experience to what you like while the group still encourages membership and activity.

The only person who seems to really game the system is a person who posts links to articles in other publications. Many times useful but what has happened is he has attracted a lot of 'rec's for his posting of a URL and ends up very high up. Almost all the time his posts are just the URL. I have him on my ignore list as I grew tired to needing to look at a link just to follow a topic. This guy is only on fool.co.uk. He is will liked.

I always have trouble finding new posts.
I think this would be helpful if we could bring up all the topics posted between certain dates. For example: I want to see what new was posted in a last 2 days.
