How can an investor find out what Fortune 500 companies are seeking to open up in a particular city?
I'd like to place under contract a commercial property, then be able to offer it to stable companies I know want to move into that area.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

check w/ the "tenant rep" broker at the big firms or boutique commercial real estate firms. Many have exclusives w/ companies.
You can call the real estate department of the company you're thinking of (say Starbucks, or Yum! Brands (KFC, Pizza hut, etc))
I think what you're looking for is the credit rating of the company not their position in the fortune 500. I looked at a deal that was a fortune 250(?) company, but did not have an investment grade credit rating.
I would take a smaller, more highly credit rated company over a bigger company.

Thanks for the replies! This is an area I'm eager to learn more about. I really appreciate both suggestions! If any learning materials or groups exist, I'd love to know about them! "Investment grade credit rating." Hmmm.... Now there's something I should learn how to find. I knew there were answers. You have opened my eyes! I'd love to hear other suggestions if anybody has more. Thanks!

http://www.fitchratings.com, http://www.moodys.com, http://www.standardandpoors.com. If I don't have any typos.
Having a mentor is how I learned all this.

cjmazur: Thanks for the information. Much appreciated. I understand about the mentor thing. But alas, I don't have the required $$$$$ for mentors-for-hire. So I have to put the pieces together best I can. Your input helps!

My mentor has cost me NOTHING.
I have unlimited long distance, so not even the phone calls cost me.
This is how a mentor, as oppose to a flim-flam man should be.

You hooked up with a good guy (or woman), then. That's for sure.
