Hi, I my husband is a general contractor who is now just doing flooring, general contracting is way to much a pain. Anyways he just got this job where the original owners put carpet over mexican tile, the new owners, its a restaurant, would like to take up the carpet and keep the mexican tile. Any ideas on how to get the carpet glue off of the tile? Anything will help, Thanks in advace STacey, by the way I love this site. I just ran across it by accident.

Some sort of commercial solvent and a lot of elbow grease?

Not sure, never had to do it. Hopefully someone will have a better idea.

Do a web search, this is pretty easy with the right product.

I have laid 1000's of sq ft of the mexican "saltio" tile. So I am very familar with it. I have never encounter this problem but I have talked to people that have had mexican tile refinished and this is how it works: rent a floor sander and sand off a thin layer of tile. You may have to try differnt types of machines rotary, walk behind and see what works www.best.The mexican tile is just raw clay that has been sun dried not baked like a standard tile; therefore it is very soft .Because of the fragile nature of the tile I would not use any harsh solvents. after you sand it down-clean it thoroghly with a large tile sponge and water. let dry and reseal with waterbased sealer.

Use a heat gun and a scraper. No solvents.
