A question for you experienced painters out there: The previous owners of my rehab property painted the entire interior in semigloss latex. What kind of prep is required to repaint in a flat latex?

Uggh. But since it's latex on a wall surface, no problem. You should be able to just go over it with a flat without too much of a headache. It may take two coats however. The new paint application tends to slip and slide over a semigloss leading to poor coverage in some areas.

I would recommend using TSP (or equivelant cleaner)applied with a sponge mop first. Then apply a fairly heavy first coat of paint, wait 24 hours, then a second coat if and where necessary.

Good advice, the 24 hours between coats is something few people realize the value of when it comes to getting good coverage.

If you scuff up the walls a little with some sandpaper, a flat will adhere better. And don't rush the coats in between.

Thankfully, they didn't use a semigloss oil base on the walls!
