SANTA ANA, CA -- - Dwyer, Kemp and LaJoie Named to Committee - The First American Corporation (NYSE:FAF), the nation's largest data provider, today announced that John P. Dwyer has been named vice president of The First American Corporation and director of the company's governmental and regulatory affairs. In this role, Dwyer will oversee the company's relations with its various state and federal regulatory oversight agencies and will represent First American in both industry and governmental forums on matters of importance to the company and its agency base, such as the current roundtable discussions with the Office of Housing and Urban development on potential reform of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA). Dwyer will also work with the company's operations to assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. He will be assisted by the company's regulatory and legal staff, including Timothy V. Kemp, regulatory counsel of The First American Corporation; and John T. LaJoie, who has assumed the additional role of special regulatory counsel of The First American Corporation.
John P. Dwyer has been with United General Title Insurance Company, a subsidiary of First American Title Insurance Company, for nine years as president and chief executive officer. He has been the keynote speaker at numerous title association meetings and also has conducted training programs in title technologies and marketing across the country. He has spoken to regulators, given legislative testimony and has addressed various industry-related groups, including the American Land Title Association, Mortgage Bankers and local real estate and land title associations. Dwyer holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
Timothy V. Kemp will oversee the legal regulatory work involved in this new committee, as well as manage the daily regulatory issues for the corporation. He has been with the corporation for 12 years in various capacities, including vice president and associate senior underwriter of First American Title Insurance Company. Most recently, he served as legal counsel to The First American Corporation, where he helped develop First American's industry-pioneering bundled services program. He also has provided training and continuing education nationwide in the areas of regulatory compliance (including RESPA), market conditions and new products and programs for insurance industry regulators, First American personnel and agents, and industry groups. Kemp is a member of the Mississippi, Tennessee and American Bar Associations, as well as a registered In-House Counsel member of the California State Bar. Kemp holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., and a juris doctor degree from the University of Mississippi Law Center.
John T. LaJoie will work with Kemp on special projects involving government and regulatory issues. He has been with the corporation's largest subsidiary, First American Title Insurance Company, for 22 years as state, regional and senior regional counsel of that company. He is a member of the executive council of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law section of the Florida Bar. He also has served as president of the Florida Land Title Association and as chairman of The Florida Title Underwriters Bureau. LaJoie holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting from College of William and Mary, as well as a juris doctor degree from Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
