Cooper Joins NewPage Corporation as General Counsel

DAYTON, OH -- NewPage Corporation announced today that Douglas K. Cooper has joined the company's senior leadership team effective November 1, 2005, as vice president, general counsel and secretary.

In this position, Mr. Cooper has responsibility for leading corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives, providing senior leaders with effective advice on company strategies and operational issues, managing the legal function and oversight of outside counsel work. He will also be responsible for the corporate compliance program and directly involved in business transactions and negotiating critical contracts for NewPage Corporation.

Prior to joining NewPage, Mr. Cooper was a business attorney for Arent Fox PLLC in Novi, Michigan, where he focused on commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, regulatory compliance, and business law for clients in manufacturing and service industries.

>From 2001 to 2003, Mr. Cooper was senior vice president of law for GDX automotive in Farmington Hill, Michigan. From 1997 to 2001, he served as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary for Peregrine Incorporation. Previously, he was employed by Leaseway Transportation Corp. in Beachwood, Ohio, as vice president of operations law. He joined Leaseway in 1976, and held positions of increasing responsibility during his tenure with the company.

Mr. Cooper holds a bachelor's from North Carolina State University and J.D. from the University of North Carolina, School of Law.
