CHICAGO, IL -- National Apartment Association Announces PARAGON Awards Winners The historic Belden-Stratford, a recently restored and renowned Lincoln Park landmark, steps away from Lake Michigan, is the 2005 winner of the National Apartment Association's PARAGON Award for Best Mid/High Rise Community in the U.S. Built Before 1979.
The National Apartment Association's prestigious PARAGON awards recognize properties across the nation that continue to reach new levels of excellence and quality, and for outstanding achievements in the industry.
"It's an honor to receive a national award for our achievements at The Belden-Stratford," said Janice Greenberg, President of Irmco Properties and Management Company. "It confirms that we've done an excellent job restoring and refurbishing The Belden-Stratford to its previous grandeur."
In the 1920s when actors, wealthy businessmen and the affluent arrived in Chicago they often stayed at one of the many apartment-style hotels in the area. One of the most popular was The Belden-Stratford at 2300 N. Lincoln Park West. Regular guests included celebrities like Louis Armstrong and Gloria Swanson.
In 1989, The Belden-Stratford underwent major renovations, becoming one of Chicago's premier luxury living apartment buildings. Irmco Properties added many accoutrements to the landmark building, including central air conditioning, heating systems, modern kitchens and full baths. However, it's the regal lobby that catches one's attention.
The lobby's original 1920's vintage decor is enhanced by modern elements reflecting nearby Lincoln Park, a large gold and alabaster chandelier, and a mural on its 20-foot ceiling. The marble floors are covered by Persian Rugs and furnished with wingback chairs, leather couches and dark wooden tables.
The prestigious honor recognizes Irmco's dedication to restoring The Belden-Stratford for modern-day apartment tenants without ruining its original structure, and keeping the neighborhood charm.
The Belden-Stratford is owned and managed by Irmco Properties located in Chicago, Illinois and founded in 1951 by L.D. Richman. It was purchased in 1987 by Irmco Properties and underwent a major restoration. The Irmco Properties family includes The Sovereign, The Flamingo and The Versailles rental residences and The Seneca Hotel in downtown Chicago. Irmco Realty Services is the real estate brokerage arm of various Irmco enterprises. The company functions both in the city and in the rural countryside.
