i have just recently found out about these tax sales for homes and I was wondering where do i have to go to find the listings for such properties in California.

How much can one start with usually?
You have to go to the county tax collector's website or office if they don't have a web site. You should also be aware that California is a Tax Deed state which means that you have to buy the property at the county's tax auction. There are no Tax Liens.
different couties hold their auctions at different times of the years.
Call the counties that you're interested and ask when the sales are.
Santa Clara was just in June.
